The Export Credit Insurance Corporation SOC LTD (ECIC) will spend its commemoration of the 67 minutes of Mandela Day by donating literacy books worth R 140 thousand to the Solomon Mahlangu (Somafco) High School in the township of Mamelodi, East of Pretoria.
As part of the ECIC Corporate Social Investment programme the corporation will also refurbish the school library and provide literacy books which do not form part of the curriculum with an objective of promoting and inculcating the culture of reading. Literacy promotion is part of the schools programme to further improve knowledge of leaners through systematic reading.
Somafco High School which received 98% pass rate in the 2013 matric results, is a beneficiary of the after school lessons programme of the Grade 12 leaners in subjects of Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting. ECIC has partnered with Tshwane University of Technology and Sci‐bono in the after school lessons project.
In addition to the literacy books donations and refurbishments ECIC staff members will be providing career guidance in various fields of study to the learners, focusing on key fields defining the operations of ECIC which are Economics studies, Research, Actuarial Sciences, Project Financing and Accounting.
