KZN Exporter of the Year Awards Nominee’s

The ceremony was opened by Mrs. Louise Pelser, Chairperson of the DCCI Trade and Investment Forum. Mrs. Louise Pelser said ‘’The awards are an ideal showcase for emerging and established exporters of a wide range of goods’’.

Mr. Odirile Ramasodi from the Export Credit Insurance Corporation was a guest speaker, and the keynote address was conducted by Mr. Richard Cookson from Garlicke and Bousfield. Mr. Richard Cookson has over thirty years’ experience advising clients on international business transactions.

‘’Exports are a cornerstone of the country’s economic strategy as it improves South Africa’s balance of trade through earning foreign revenue. Exports also serve to boost manufacturing demand domestically, creating jobs and developing skills. With a GDP contribution of 16%, KwaZulu Natal is the second largest economic contributor to the South African economy. A large part of the KZN economy is, as a result of being host to the Durban Container Terminal, the largest in Southern Africa, and Richards Bay Terminal’’ said Richard Cookson.

Mrs. Dumile Cele, CEO of the DCCI gave an overview of the KZN Exporter of the Year Awards and made the announcement of the nominees. Dumile Cele, CEO of the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, commented, “We celebrate and attempt to encourage exports out of KZN. The KZN economy needs to improve as it is currently faced with imports that are higher than it exports, making KZN a market for other countries to benefit, while we remain a follower on the world economic stage.”
