During my time at the ECIC, I had the privilege of working with Mr. Nkuhlu, who was my General Manager at the time. He was a gifted and innovative leader, and a very knowledgeable person. My condolences to his family, friends and ECIC colleagues. Rest well Mandisi.

Mandisi,

Gone too soon my friend! Seven years ago, the two of us crafted the SA Inc initiative over lunch. Your brilliance, humility and ability to put South Africa and Africa first was a rare gift in many of us bankers! I learned a lot from you my friend. I am grateful to the Almighty for letting me spend a week of uninterrupted interaction with you in DRC recently. I surely had my moment to say bye. Go well my friend and my promise to you is that those of us that remain will soldier on with your dream of integrating the region through the SA Inc initiative you assisted to coin! MYSRIP

Having known and worked with Mandisi for almost 12 years, it is surreal to come to terms with his passing. An accomplished thinker, consummate communicator and an avid reader. Mandisi’s brand of leadership made everyone feel included. May Busisiwe, the children and the bigger Nkuhlu family find comfort in the good memories you shared. We will miss you dearly brother.

One person who knew how to strike a deal, very intelligent, sharp, supportive, dependable, calm, cool, collected, humble, positive individual. I thank the Lord for your life, for allowing us to drink from your oasis. Your welcoming personality made my life at ECIC seem like I have been part of the ECIC Team for ages even though it is just a year. You will always be remembered and cherished for your wisdom, sleep well my leader.

What a gentle giant you were Mandisi. My heart goes out to the Nkuhlu family and my former ECIC colleagues. It was an absolute pleasure serving under your leadership. Intelligent, measured with your words, calm and with a heart of gold. Your unwavering passion and commitment for SA is definitely one to be coveted. I for one am very grateful for having afforded me an opportunity to be part of the ECIC family when I was a very confused and naive 23 year old. Can’t help but reminisce about how we used to run away from you because of your million questions on premium and how we would constantly make fun of your slow voice and your walk. You will certainly be missed, go well. Till we meet again.

Mandisi Harold Robert Nkuhlu. Where does one start, when writing about a great Leader like you. You are truly befitting of an unscripted biography. Thank you for the many opportunities you gave me at ECIC, and for contributing immensely to my career progression. Your inquisitive and sharp mind, the many questions you would ask, “which sometimes felt like one was in an interrogation room”, ensured that I do thorough work and apply my mind extensively. I always wanted to be ready, as one would never know which angle, you would fire from. I learnt the ECA-lingo from you, and I remember how you would come to look for a person, after 4pm, if they did not answer your calls/ emails “he who knows your workstation“. You will be sorely missed by many and may your legacy live on. To your family, in IsiNdebele we say ‘isitsha esihle asidleli‘; may they be comforted. Lala ngoxolo Mr Nkuhlu.

Deepest condolences to the Nkuhlu family, friends, and colleagues. Mandisi was a great leader and man. Passionate, intelligent, and fair. His calm and cool head always amazed me. It made you feel welcomed, but also kept you on your toes from as a young professional. A character that won’t be forgotten. RIP.

Very saddened on learning of Mandisi’s passing. As Dbsa, we had done a couple of deals with him in Ghana, DRC- Snel, Mozambique, others in the pipeline. I used to get calls from regarding the deals under consideration.Mandisi was unassuming, yet very articulate in explaining the nitty gritties of ECIC operations to the Lenders. He was very intelligent in his quite way. Rest Easy my brother .Zodwa Mbele

We at BECI (Export Credit Insurance and Guarantee Company Botswana Ltd) have received the loss of Mr. Mandisi Nkuhlu with profound sadness. We called him a friend of BECI, as he is someone who supported BECI’s endeavors in the ECA space, and offered his support even beyond the call of duty. He will be sadly missed for his soft spoken voice, which was well educated in the trade facilitation space. We honour the priviledge of having associated with him and we truly believe his legacy will live on at ECIC.
Rest well in peace Mandisi.

It is with disbelief and a heavy heart that I write this tribute to Mandisi Nkuhlu – throughout many years it was always a privilege and a pleasure working with Mandisi. He conducted business with integrity, thoughtful consideration and an appreciation for getting it done but simultaneously an infectious appreciation for the humorous side of life! He made a contribution to South African business during his tenure at ECIC that I would like to acknowledge. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and his colleagues at ECIC. Mandisi’s exemplary leadership will be missed but must leave a legacy long after his passing.

On behalf of the Zimbabwe Public Debt Management Office and our Ministry of Finance & Economic Development , I would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and colleagues at ECIC on the tragic loss of Mr Mandisi Nkuhlu. It is a great loss to us given the central role that he was playing in strengthening the relationship and cooperation between ECIC and Zimbabwe. I had the honor and privilege of sitting with him at a negotiating table for a health infrastructure development facility being supported by the ECIC. Thank you very much for your leadership. Gone too soon for us.

I remember Mr Mandisi Nkuhlu as a quiet, peaceful but strong individual who kept his business very much to himself. His slight smile was in line with his business ethic. A determined and well secure man, a no frills, no fuss type of person, yet personally friendly and sincere.
I will sincerely miss him.
